Polymer-modified roof membranes are composed of reinforcing fabrics that serve as carriers for the hot polymer-modified bitumen as it is manufactured into a roll material. Modified bitumen roof system membranes are composed of multiple layers, much like built-up roofs.
Modified Bitumen roof systems are composed of five basic components that can be assembled in a number of combinations. Insulation provides R-value and a stable substrate for roof systems. Modified Base Sheets/Plies are a modified or unmodified base or ply sheets used under a modified ply. Modified Bitumen membranes are a factory fabricated sheet consisting of a co-polymer modified bitumen typically reinforced with polyester, fiberglass or a composite carrier. Adhesive is used as a waterproofing material and bonding agent that is either applied hot or cold. Surfacing provides UV protection and a weathering surface that can be either factory or field applied. Flashings provide waterproofing around roof perimeter, equipment and penetrations.
